One of the most iconic and colourful items seen during Day of the Dead is the sugar skull or Calavera. These skulls, which can come in different sizes, are traditionally made of sugar and are decorated with icing to be fun and colourful. Some even have feathers, glitter, hats, or other objects attached to make them more personal. See my About section for more information on this fascinating tradition.
Historically, copper has been used to keep the body healthy and to enhance positive energy. It is also said to improve mental health, joint stiffness and pain, mineral absorption and a healthier immune system. It can also uplift a person spiritually.
Each cute little sugar skull ring is lovingly made by me! I draw the skull and cut it from thin copper sheet by piercing saw which means each skull is different, unique and (I like to think) has its own personality!
I make the copper band from 2mm copper wire and this can be made in any size you wish (please select from the drop-down menu). If you can’t see the size you want please send me a message.
This ring can be worn on its own or with one of my other rings as a stacking set.
Please note that sometimes the acidic nature of human sweat and other chemicals on the skin, such as soaps, lotions and makeup, can react with copper and cause a green patina or surface coating to form on the copper and transfer onto the skin. This occurs as a normal reaction to the prolonged copper exposure on the skin, typically caused by oxidation and is not dangerous. Any marks can be removed with soap and water and the jewellery can be restored with a quick polish. If you have any problems, please do let me know.
My items are inspired by Victorian memento mori and Mexican sugar skulls and more information about this can be found in my About section. If you have any questions please feel free to message me.
