Small Copper & Silver Victorian Cross Necklace

Inspiration for this cross pendant came from the Victorian era and has been handmade by me. The copper cross is cut from metal sheet using a piercing saw and then a small rose moulded from silver clay is fired and soldered to the centre of the cross.

Proper etiquette among the upper class in Victorian England was totally different to today. It was taboo to just tell someone how you felt so Victorians relied on the language of flowers to express their feelings. Roses generally meant love but depending on their colour, they could indicate the deepness or innocence of that love, ranging from white for purity to burgundy for unconscious adoration.

Historically, copper has been used to keep the body healthy and to enhance positive energy. It is also said to improve mental health, joint stiffness and pain, mineral absorption and a healthier immune system. It can also uplift a person spiritually.

The cross measures approx. 38mm x 29mm. The ball chain is sterling silver and attached with sterling silver jump rings. The necklace length is 18 inches with an adjuster to wear it slightly shorter.

This necklace has been handmade by me cut from a sheet of copper using a piercing saw and then hand stamped using traditional methods. Each necklace will be different as they are hand cut and hand stamped so please allow for slight variations in the design.

Please note that sometimes the acidic nature of human sweat and other chemicals on the skin, such as soaps, lotions and makeup, can react with copper and cause a green patina or surface coating to form on the copper and transfer onto the skin. This occurs as a normal reaction to the prolonged copper exposure on the skin, typically caused by oxidation and is not dangerous. Any marks can be removed with soap and water and the jewellery can be restored with a quick polish. If you have any problems, please do let me know.
