JEWELLERY SERVICES

Commissions

I would love to make something unique and special for you. If you can’t see exactly what you are looking for on my website, why not email me and we can start a discussion.

Commissions are a really great way to get a piece of bespoke jewellery that really speaks to you and echoes your true self.

I have recently made commissions of wedding rings, birthday specials and one-off items.

These have all been born from someone asking me to make them something special they couldn’t find anywhere else.

So, if you want to purchase something unique to you then just send me a message and we can start a discussion.

How commissions work with Rock & Rose Jewellery

Initial chat and free consultation

We schedule a chat, ideally in person or via Zoom, to discuss the item(s) you would like me to make. This is your opportunity to tell me exactly the sort of piece you would like me to make.

It’s also a great way to meet me and see if you’d like to work with me if you haven’t already done so. On the rare occasions that I can’t make you something I will always offer you alternatives or point you in the direction of a maker I think will suit you better.

It helps if you come to the meeting with some images of similar items. I won’t be able to make you an exact copy of something another maker has made. It’s not ethical to copy other makers work so please don’t ask me to.

Pinterest is a great way to gather your ideas so feel free to create a board and share it with me in advance of the meeting so were on the same page.

After our initial consultation

Once we have met and discussed the idea, I will draw up some options using creative tools which might include 3D models, photos, or orthographic drawings. I will put together a collection of these to create a ‘mood board’ for your design. This is where Pinterest comes in handy!

I will also send you a quote for my work. This quote includes my time, materials, postage and any additional costs such as hallmarking.

I will also give you a timescale for my work. I only work part time so your quote will include the time I can manage to make you a beautiful piece without being rushed.

If applicable, I will also need you to confirm your ring size if applicable by visiting an established jewellery store and asking them to size you for your required ring or by visiting me at an upcoming event. I believe it is best to gain an accurate size and this can not always be done by sending out ring sizers in the post.

Once you’ve received the quote and the mood board if you’re happy to proceed I will need a 50% deposit (smaller deposits can sometimes be arranged). This means I can go ahead and buy the materials. You will also be asked to sign a contract that outlines all the requirements from both sides.

During the process

I will send you regular updates on your piece including pictures so you can see how it is progressing. If agreed beforehand we can schedule Zoom calls so you can ask me any questions.

During the making if you think of anything you want to add/change please do email me. I can’t guarantee I can do this as the piece may have progressed beyond the point of changing.

Finished piece

Once the piece is finished, I will send you final pictures. I will then ask for the remainder of the price to be paid plus any shipping costs before posting it to you.

The item will be sent via special delivery to cover insurance. It is important that you ensure the address I am posting to is accurate. I cannot be held responsible for incorrect postal addresses as provided by you.

Change of mind?

Unfortunately bespoke items cannot be returned and once I have started on the project, I am unable to refund you any money already paid.

I will make sure we are both 100% happy to proceed before signing any agreements. I want you to be 100% happy with the piece you are commissioning.

If you’d like to go ahead and schedule an initial no cost consultation call to discuss a bespoke piece, then please contact me.

REPAIRS

Sometimes jewellery needs repairing, it happens! I can help with that.

If you bought the piece from me

If your jewellery needs repairing then send me an email attaching clear photographs so I can see if/how it can be repaired. If the damage was due to a fault in manufacturing I will do my best to repair the item free of charge. Please refer to my Returns & Refunds Policy for more information.

If you bought the piece from someone else

I would love to help you repair that special piece that has just sat in a drawer unloved and broken. You know the one!

There are two ways to start the process. You can send me an email using my contact form below with lots of photos of the item. Or better still come and see me at one of my markets (you can find out where I’m trading by signing up to my VIP list or following me on my socials). I can then see the piece and chat to you about what you’d like doing to see if I can help.

After contacting me I will give you a quote for my time, any replacement materials and once you’ve confirmed you’re happy for me to go ahead, I will send you an invoice for 50% up front. As with commissions, this helps pay me for my time or materials prior to starting. You will also be asked to sign a contract that outlines all the requirements from both sides.

In some cases I won’t be able to repair the item, for example if it’s in a metal I don’t use. I will always let you know if that’s the case and make recommendations of other routes you can try.

Polishing

Most of my copper jewellery comes in a darker patinated version however I do have some rings that are high shine copper.

The shiny version of copper can darken over time. This is a natural oxidisation of the copper metal due to air or oils from skin and lotions. Personally I like the darker orange but if this isn’t to your liking, I can help with that.

I have provided a method on how to brighten up your copper jewellery on my Caring for your jewellery page however if your jewellery has a stone set in it or is really delicate then this method isn’t recommended as it can damage the stone.

I offer a polishing service for all your jewellery. If you want to take advantage of this all you need to do is use the contact form below to tell me you want to send your jewellery in for polishing.

Then once I’ve responded to discuss your request you send me your jewellery back (I recommend sending it via a tracked service or special delivery). I can restore it to its original beauty!

The charge for polishing is £7 per item plus £2 for each additional item and a return postage charge. Alternatively, you can drop off and collect your jewellery from me at any of the markets I attend and only pay the item charge(s) as above.

What’s next?
